What a school-based ABA session looks like in Pueblo
An in-school ABA session is structured work, not supervision. The RBT watches the routine where things go wrong, then teaches a skill your child learns to use instead: asking for a break, waiting a turn, moving on after a warning.
Therapy sessions produce data, and your child's behavior analyst uses it to adjust the treatment plan. Plans start with a VB-MAPP or ABLLS-R assessment of your child's strengths and needs. Our board certified behavior analysts (BCBAs) aim to supervise about 20% of the hours our ABA therapists, all registered behavior technicians, spend in therapy sessions, roughly four times the BACB minimum, and a BCBA clinician reviews the data every week. How school-based ABA therapy works across Pueblo school districts
Pueblo School District 60 serves the city itself, and addresses out in the county fall under Pueblo County School District 70. The two districts run separate special education offices, so start with the one your address belongs to.
District 60 spells out its rules in policy JLCDC-R: a written plan built with the parents and the provider, signed consent, a background check, liability insurance, and two weeks' notice before any added visit. The district keeps sole discretion to deny additional visits (D60 policy JLCDC-R).

How we handle the school side
You do not have to make the pitch yourself. We reach out to the school, explain what the BCBA recommends and complete what the district asks of outside providers. While a request is pending, the same goals continue through consultation, after-school ABA and parent coaching.
Colorado requires every school district to post a policy on how outside providers observe, collaborate and treat students at school (HB22-1260). No Colorado law guarantees a yes, so each request is decided one student at a time.

Does Medicaid cover school-based ABA in Pueblo County?
