Parks, stores, playgrounds: therapy practiced in the real Colorado places where your family needs it to work.

The grocery store meltdown. The playground where your child circles other kids but never joins. The restaurant you stopped trying years ago. Budding Futures ABA takes therapy into real Colorado places, parks, stores, playgrounds, sidewalks, because that is where the skills your family needs have to work. Rachel Blackburn, BCBA builds each plan, and Medicaid families usually pay nothing.

Skills that only exist out there

Some goals cannot be finished at home. Staying with you in a parking lot. Tolerating a cart through fifteen minutes of shopping. Ordering food, or waiting while you do. Joining playground play with kids nobody rehearsed. Handling the noise of a real store on a real Saturday. Home sessions build the pieces, requesting, waiting, following directions, and community sessions assemble them under real conditions, with a trained RBT beside your child and a plan for what to do when it wobbles.

Safety goals get special weight. For a child who bolts, parking lots and store exits are the exact places the elopement plan has to hold, and our elopement program leans on community practice for that reason. Practicing safety where the danger lives, with a professional managing the risk, beats hoping a kitchen-table lesson generalizes to a curb.

How a community session runs

Community sessions are earned, not day one. The skill gets built at home first, then staged into the world in steps: a quiet park before a busy one, a five-minute store run before a full shop, an empty playground hour before the after-school rush. Your RBT sets up each trip with a clear goal, runs it, collects data, and debriefs you. Parents join many community sessions on purpose, because the handoff is the point: the plan ends with you doing Saturday errands with your child, no therapist in sight.

Everything stays inside the same clinical structure: goals from the assessment, data every session, Rachel supervising at roughly 20 percent, about four times the BACB minimum.

Home, community, one plan

Community work is a layer, not a separate service. Most plans mix home sessions for building skills, community sessions for proving them, and parent coaching to keep both running between visits. Statewide, every Colorado city, 8AM to 8PM with weekend availability, ages 18 months through 18 years. Health First Colorado usually covers therapy at $0 under Provider Types 83 and 84, commercial plans typically $0 to $500, benefits verified up front, no waitlist right now.

Community practice is one of the settings our services cover across Colorado.

FAQ

Questions parents ask about community sessions

What if my child melts down in public during a session?

Then the plan handles it, calmly, the way it was designed to, and the data tells us whether the step was too big. A wobble with a professional there is practice. The same wobble alone with you on a Tuesday is just a bad day. That is the entire argument for doing this work supported.

Which places do you go?

The places your family actually uses: your grocery store, your park, your library, your child's future bus stop. The plan is built from your errands, not a generic list.

Is community-based ABA covered by insurance?

Medically necessary ABA is covered in the settings the goals require, community included. Health First Colorado usually covers it at $0, and we verify your exact benefits before anything starts.
