The honest answer about recovery
Children change as they grow. Skills develop, environments change, and support needs can shift. That is real progress. It does not mean a provider should promise that autism will disappear.
What better outcomes can mean
- A dependable way to communicate
- More control over daily choices
- Greater independence in routines
- Safer participation at home and in the community
- Support that matches the person’s current needs
Why cure language causes problems
Cure language can turn every autistic trait into a failure and push families toward unrealistic promises. It may also hide the supports a child still needs because they have learned to mask distress.
A better way to set goals
Choose goals that help the child communicate, participate, stay safe, and make choices. Review them as the child grows.
