Insurance and Medicaid for ABA Therapy in Colorado
"Figuring out if your insurance covers ABA therapy shouldn't require a law degree. Most Colorado families qualify, and we'll tell you for free before your first session."
Insurance We Accept
We work with the major insurance providers in Colorado. The state spent over $287 million on Medicaid-funded ABA services in recent years, and private plans are required by law to cover autism treatment. If your plan isn't listed, call us anyway. We'll check.

How Benefits Verification Works
Three steps. Zero cost to you. You'll know exactly what's covered before therapy starts.
Give us your insurance information over the phone or through our form. Takes about five minutes. With 1 in 31 children now diagnosed with autism according to the CDC, most families are surprised to learn they already have coverage. We handle everything from there.
Our team contacts your insurance provider directly. We check your ABA therapy coverage, authorized hours, and any copay or deductible details. Once verified, you can schedule your child's initial evaluation.
We call you back with a clear breakdown of your benefits. No surprises, no hidden costs. You decide whether to move forward with in-home ABA therapy with full information.
Insurance Questions Families Ask
These come up in almost every first call. Here are straight answers.
Income changes can affect Medicaid eligibility, but Colorado has programs designed to help families keep coverage during transitions. We help you navigate this. If your income increases and you move to a private plan, we can verify that new coverage and keep therapy going without a gap.
Hour denials happen, and they're not the end of the road. We handle authorization appeals for our families. Our clinical team documents the medical necessity based on our data-driven methodology, submits the appeal with supporting data, and fights to get your child the hours they need. You don't have to do this alone.
It depends on your plan. Colorado Medicaid covers ABA therapy for all children under 21 through EPSDT, and most Medicaid plans have no copay. Private insurance plans vary. Some have a copay per session, others don't. We explain your specific costs upfront during benefits verification so there are no surprises when therapy starts.

What Does Colorado Law Say About ABA Insurance Coverage?
Colorado has some of the strongest autism insurance mandates in the country. Two state laws protect your child's access to ABA therapy:
Senate Bill 09-244 (2010): Required private health insurance plans in Colorado to cover the diagnosis and treatment of autism spectrum disorder, including ABA therapy, for individuals under 19.
Senate Bill 15-015 (effective January 2017): Removed the age and dollar caps on ABA coverage. This means there is no limit on how many hours or how many years your child can receive ABA therapy through private insurance in Colorado.
For Medicaid families, Health First Colorado covers ABA therapy for all children under 21 through the federal EPSDT mandate. Most Medicaid plans have zero copay for ABA services.
Budding Futures ABA Therapy handles the entire insurance verification and authorization process for families across Colorado. Rachel Blackburn, BCBA, and our clinical team submit all required documentation, manage Prior Authorization Requests, and handle appeals if coverage is initially denied. You focus on your child. We handle the paperwork.
